The nomination period for the Coconino County 2020 Teacher of the Year and Rookie Teacher of the Year Award has been extended to 5 p.m. on Monday, November 18, 2019.

Reasons for Teacher of the Year. Becoming Teacher of the Year is something many teachers dream of. The award can provide validation for years of hard work and sacrifice for the teaching profession. In some states and districts, it also comes with some pretty nice perks. However, not just anyone can become Teacher of.

Finalists for the rookie teacher of the year are Theresa Spann, culinary arts teacher at Umatilla High School; Alejandra Perez, 8th grade history teacher at East Ridge Middle School; and Nina Lang.

Soooo first year middle school teacher here. My students had an essay due. I had to chase this one kid down for two weeks for him to finally turn it in. I got it, was in no rush to grade it,and put it to the side for three days. We have been working on another project and my desk piled up with papers.

A teacher does not have the time to hold a grudge. The popular phrase “turn the other cheek” comes to mind, but in a way teacher’s cheeks turn limitlessly. If teachers do not exhibit this forgiveness, they will handicap their students by not allowing them a bad day or not allowing them to work past their prior experiences with a given subject matter.
